I started Philé in Sydney in 2017, initially as a collection of elevated basics to gift my friends and their children. But in truth, the foundations of Philé were laid much earlier - at home, watching the women in my family create with care, intention, and pride.
As the granddaughter of a seamstress, I grew up with a deep appreciation for natural fabrics and slow craftsmanship, principles that remain at the heart of Philé today.
Some of my most vivid memories are from childhood, visiting fabric stores with my mother and grandmother.
Together, we would choose a pattern I loved, then carefully select the fabric,
buttons, lining, and trims that would bring it to life.
There was a quiet ritual to it. Nothing rushed. Every decision considered.
By Easter, my grandmother would have transformed those materials into a coat made just for me. I remember the feeling so clearly - walking into our traditional Friday night service wearing something entirely my own.
Something made with love, patience, and extraordinary skill. I felt proud, but more than that, I felt connected - to them, and to something lasting.
I kept every one of those coats.
